LI Seeker

希科

Mr. Seeker Li has worked in various industries ranging from rural to urban areas, consistently engaging in handicraft creation. For decades, he has witnessed the remarkable transformation of Chinese society from an agricultural giant to an industrial powerhouse, along with the painful transition of people’s emotions and concepts from an agrarian society. To allow handicrafts to reflect these changes of the times,  he advocated innovation in embroidery. He creatively and systematically shifted from realistic to abstract embroidery.

Abstract embroidery is not only a farewell to the emotions of the agrarian era but also aims to embrace the new era, especially exploring how traditional crafts can survive and develop in the age of AI. When his abstract painting embroidery was first exhibited on Guest Day at the China Embroidery Art Festival, traditional embroidery masters were astonished. The abstract themes, unprecedented lines, innovative stitching techniques, and particularly the mesmerizing, elusive silk sheen formed by abstract patterns, all evoked a sense of wonder. The most intense feeling on the picture is the interweaving and collision of energy.

The representative series "Four Seasons" took two to four years to create each piece. These abstract embroidery works are filled with the colors of the agrarian society, and the dynamic, ever-changing lines reveal distinct calligraphy genes. The incredibly exquisite details of Su embroidery showcase the luxurious silk luster and a relief-like texture, reminiscent of the leisurely and warm agrarian era.

In September 2021, four abstract embroidery pieces, including "Summer of the Four Seasons," were invited to participate in the China Embroidery Art Festival. In May 2019, more than ten works, including abstract painting embroidery, cursive script embroidery, installation pieces, and oil paintings, were featured in the "Art Beijing 2019" contemporary art exhibition.
